Angry Platini on Racism Allegations Croatia
Warsawa (AFP / AFP) - UEFA president Michel Platini on Monday condemned the Croatian fans who make racist abuse against Mario Balotelli and the Italian player said he had traveled to the Balkan country last year to warn the authorities there about the problem.
"I do not like to Croatia. I was in Croatia last year and I do not like. They have a good team that plays well but is not acceptable when you've got a hundred or more rioters in the crowd," he told reporters in Warsaw.
Croatian football federation faces a possible punishment after UEFA-backed monitoring group has reported at least 500 Croatian fans taunt Balotelli during Euro 2012 Group C match on Thursday.
An AFP photographer who finished in front of the fans at the stadium in Poznan, western Poland, also reported seeing the officer who took the banana from the field.
Platini said that during a trip to Croatia, the country's soccer authorities were warned about the possibility of racist fans at Euro 2012.
"They (the federation of Croatia) know (that it could happen)," he added. "Any form of racism is a problem. One case is too many."
This is the first case for racism in Euro 2012, held in Poland and Ukraine, while Platini earlier statement that the governing body of European football has "zero tolerance" in this issue.
